Barty's Technicolor Tsunami
Barty Butterfield, armed with a gallon of 'Serene Seafoam' interior paint and an optimism usually reserved for lottery winners, surveyed his living room. "Today," he declared to his terrier, Scrappy, "we make progress!" Scrappy, whose life philosophy revolved around making *anything* progress, gave a short, sharp bark of approval, which Barty, in his buoyant naivety, mistook for understanding.
The first brushstroke was a triumph of neatness. The second, a testament to focus. The third, however, was interrupted by a high-pitched yelp. Scrappy, attempting to 'help' by chasing a dust bunny under the drop cloth, snagged the leg of the stepladder. Gravity, ever the stickler for rules, did its duty.
The can of Serene Seafoam performed a graceful aerial pirouette, uncorking itself mid-air, before landing with a squishy *THWACK* directly onto the back of an unsuspecting Scrappy. The terrier, now a mobile, yelping geyser of green, shot across the room, leaving a Jackson Pollock interpretation of doggy panic on the pristine white walls. His tail, a blur of verdant wagging, redecorated the curtains. His paws, now mini paint rollers, created abstract paw print murals on the sofa.
Barty, frozen mid-air with a paintbrush, watched in horror as his 'Serene Seafoam' dream transformed into a 'Catastrophic Kermit' reality. Scrappy, having thoroughly painted the entire downstairs, paused, shook himself like a wet dog (splattering the ceiling with verdant polka dots), and then, with a final triumphant bark, decided the new green carpet needed a good roll.
Barty sighed, lowered his paintbrush, and looked at his phone. "Pizza delivery," he muttered, "and a hazmat suit." The only thing serene about his seafoam now was the faint, resigned sigh leaving his own lips.
