Project Phoenix and the Sarcasm Phoenix
The fluorescent lights of Conference Room B hummed a tune of existential dread, a fitting soundtrack for another Monday morning 'Synergy Session.' Brenda, head of 'Disruptive Innovations' (a title Penelope suspected Brenda had personally created during a fever dream involving artisanal Kombucha), beamed from the head of the table.
"Team!" Brenda chirped, clapping her hands with the force of a small percussive explosion. "I have *unbelievable* news! We're launching 'Project Phoenix'!"
Penelope, who had been meticulously sorting her paperclips by hue, merely raised an eyebrow. "Is that because it's going to burn brilliantly before collapsing into ash, only to rise again as an even more confusing initiative?" she murmured, just loud enough for Kevin, her cubicle neighbor (and fellow sufferer), to snort into his lukewarm coffee.
Brenda, ever oblivious, continued, "Project Phoenix is about revolutionizing our internal memo system! We're moving from email to... custom-designed carrier pigeons!" She held up a crudely drawn sketch of a pigeon wearing a tiny, corporate-branded satchel.
"Ah, yes," Penelope intoned, nodding slowly. "Because what the 21st century really needed was a more avian-intensive data transfer protocol. I assume the pigeons will have their own KPIs, perhaps 'Successful Delivery Rate' and 'Emotional Intelligence' based on their cooing patterns?"
Brenda's smile faltered for a microsecond. "Well, Penelope, it's about *engaging* with our past, embracing natural solutions!"
"Truly," Penelope agreed, her voice dripping with the sincerity of a leaky faucet. "I'm already envisioning the HR brief on 'Pigeon Handling Best Practices' and the inevitable 'Lost Pigeon Report' forms. Perhaps we could even offer a 'Pigeon whispering' course for top performers? I imagine the annual budget meeting will be quite lively when we have to account for birdseed and tiny executive headsets."
Kevin choked on his coffee this time. Brenda, apparently deciding Penelope was either a genius or completely unhinged (and opting for the former due to sheer self-preservation), merely pushed her spectacles up her nose. "Penelope, your... enthusiasm is noted."
"Oh, it always is, Brenda," Penelope replied, offering a tight, unblinking smile. "Always noted. Especially when discussing solutions that perfectly balance cutting-edge technology with the primitive charm of medieval communication." She then returned to her paperclips, now organizing them by their potential for aerodynamic flight.
