The Ballad of Buttered Catastrophe
Arthur awoke with a grunt, a sound usually reserved for small, startled mammals. His mission: breakfast. Specifically, toast and coffee, a seemingly innocuous quest for most. For Arthur, however, it was an Olympic sport he consistently failed to medal in.
His first hurdle was the kitchen itself. He navigated it like a blindfolded rhino in a porcelain shop, each step a potential ankle-bender. He reached for the bread, a fresh loaf, with the delicate precision of a bear swatting a salmon. It slipped, naturally, performing a perfect triple-axel before landing face-down on the admittedly clean-ish floor. "Just building character," Arthur muttered, retrieving it with a sigh.
Next, the toaster. A contraption designed, one might assume, for human use. Arthur, however, treated it like a recalcitrant alien artifact. He wrestled the bread into its slots, nearly losing a thumb in the process. The lever, usually a simple push, resisted his efforts with the stubbornness of a mule. With a triumphant *THWACK*, it finally submitted, sending a small tremor through the countertop.
The coffee was worse. He attacked the bag of grounds with gusto, only to have the seal give way spectacularly, showering his pristine, albeit floor-kissed, bread with a fine dusting of espresso. "Pre-seasoned toast!" he declared, attempting to find the silver lining in his dark, gritty cloud. As he fumbled for the coffee machine filter, his elbow connected with a precariously balanced mug, sending it clattering to the floor in a symphony of ceramic shards and Arthur's exasperated groan.
Finally, defeated but not entirely broken, Arthur surveyed the scene: coffee grounds like volcanic ash, shattered mug, and two pieces of toast that now resembled a geological sample. He opted for a bowl of cereal, only to discover, as he poured the milk, that it had expired two days ago, turning into a lumpy, sour science experiment. Arthur just stared at the bowl, then back at the chaos, and decided that perhaps hunger was a more appealing option than breakfast.
