The Unbreakable Spirit of Corporate Innovation (and Kevin's Sarcasm)
“Good morning, team!” Brenda chirped, radiating an enthusiasm usually reserved for puppies or tax refunds. “Today, we're not just innovating; we're *disrupting*! I've had a vision, a paradigm shift, if you will, for a truly game-changing product!”
Kevin, who had seen more “game-changing products” than actual games changed, leaned back. “Oh, do tell, Brenda,” he mumbled, subtly sharpening a pencil. “My excitement levels are currently at 'mildly intrigued by a fly's life choices', but I'm sure you're about to skyrocket them to 'watching paint dry in slow motion'.”
Brenda, blissfully unaware, pressed on. “It's a device! Portable, intuitive, and it connects people!” She paused for dramatic effect. “Imagine, a screen, in your hand, allowing you to communicate across vast distances! With *words*! And even *pictures*!”
Kevin raised an eyebrow. “Sounds... groundbreaking. So, it's like a very small, very advanced, perhaps slightly less feathered, pigeon?”
Brenda giggled nervously. “Better! It's got a camera! And you can even *type* messages to groups of people! We're calling it... the 'Interpersonal Communication Unit', or ICU for short!” She beamed, clearly proud of the acronym.
“ICU,” Kevin repeated slowly. “How fitting. Because I feel like I'm dying inside listening to this.” He gave a small, polite cough. “So, to clarify, it's a small screen, in your hand, for communicating and sharing pictures... Is it, by any chance, shaped like a rectangle?”
“Why, yes!” Brenda clapped her hands. “And it even makes *calls*!”
Kevin put down his pencil, a look of profound, mock-awe on his face. “Brenda, you're a visionary. You've somehow, against all odds, managed to reinvent... the smartphone. Next, I suppose you'll unveil a revolutionary new 'wheeled platform' for personal transportation, which we'll affectionately call... the 'automobile'.” He smiled serenely. “Truly, the spirit of innovation lives strong in this company. Or perhaps it's just really, really strong déjà vu.”
