The Undertaker's Unfiltered Tour
Bartholomew "Barty" Blackwood, proprietor of Blackwood & Sons (and Daughters, but we've stopped asking about her), polished a phantom speck from his immaculate lapel. "Welcome," he declared, a smile stretching his lips just a touch too wide for genuine warmth. "To the zenith of post-mortem pampering. To some, it's a funeral home. To us? It's the Forever Rest Salon."
He gestured grandly towards the softly lit viewing room. "Here, my dear, is where we ensure everyone gets their final resting *face*. And trust me, some of them need more work than others. It's all about presentation, really. Like a good tax return, but with significantly less breathing involved. We’ve had clients look better *after* their visit than they ever did alive. A testament to our cosmetic wizardry, or perhaps just a very forgiving set of dim lights."
"Next," Barty continued, sweeping a hand towards a discreetly closed door, "is our preparation suite. The 'Forever Young Spa.' This is where the magic truly happens. We restore, rejuvenate, and ensure all our clients achieve that perfect state of eternal repose. Think of it as a very, *very* deep exfoliation, followed by some expert internal landscaping. Our clients are incredibly quiet, you'll find. Never interrupt. Make for excellent conversationalists, provided you do all the talking."
He then led the way to the coffin showroom, rows of polished wood glinting under spotlights. "Our bespoke range of eternal residences. From the 'Pine Box Economy' – a charming starter home for the afterlife, very popular with those who appreciate minimalist living – to the 'Mahogany Mansions' with silk linings and memory foam pillows. Because even if you can't feel it, you absolutely deserve the comfort. We even offer custom engravings. 'I told you I was sick' is a personal favourite. No one ever complains about the quality, mind you."
Finally, he paused by the entrance to the crematorium, a distant hum echoing from within. "And for those who prefer a more... *compact* arrangement, our 'Toasty Times' facility. We like to say we turn ashes to ashes, and dust to dust, with a rather efficient heating system. A recent client, a particularly boisterous chap in life, left quite a memorable scent. Charred ambition, perhaps?"
Barty clasped his hands, his smile returning, slightly less unsettling now. "So there you have it. A glimpse into the tireless, thankless, and occasionally delightful work of ensuring everyone's last impression is a lasting one. Care for a cup of tea? We have a lovely Earl Grey. Or perhaps something stronger? We find it often helps with the… *digestion*… of what we do."
