The Synergy Serpent and the Art of Faux-Enthusiasm
Penelope eyed the tangled knot of cheap nylon rope with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for a root canal. "Ah, the 'Synergy Serpent'," Barry, their team-building guru (a man whose enthusiasm could power a small city, if said city ran on lukewarm positivity), chirped. "Our challenge today, team, is to navigate this intricate web of human connection!"
Penelope cleared her throat. "Right. Because the last time we tried to navigate an intricate web, it was the company's new expense report system, and Steve ended up trying to expense a llama."
Barry, bless his cotton socks, merely beamed. "That's the spirit, Penelope! Embracing the challenge!"
Thirty minutes later, after Sarah from accounting had nearly dislocated a shoulder trying to "connect" with Kevin from marketing, and the "Serpent" had proven to be less a metaphor for synergy and more a tangled mess of polyester and broken dreams, Penelope finally spoke up.
"Well," she announced, dusting off a nonexistent speck from her sleeve, "I feel incredibly connected. Mostly to the idea that I'd rather be auditing last quarter's paperclip usage."
Barry clapped his hands together, oblivious. "Excellent! Such growth! I think we can all agree this was a profound journey of self-discovery and team bonding!"
Penelope offered a tight smile. "Oh, absolutely profound. I discovered I'm profoundly good at pretending to care. And the team bonded beautifully... over our shared desire to escape."
Barry nodded sagely. "That's the magic of it, Penelope! The unspoken understanding!"
"Indeed," Penelope murmured, already planning her escape route to a truly synergistic coffee break. "Unspoken, for very good reason."
