The Synergy Smoothie Incident
The new 'Wellness & Synergy' initiative at GloomCorp was met with predictable apathy, save for Gerald. Gerald, whose emails were legendary tapestries of corporate jargon, took it upon himself to spearhead the break room's new 'Synergy Smoothie Machine.'
His email read: 'Team, I'm going to *leverage agile methodologies* to *strategically optimize* the *fruit-to-yogurt matrix* for maximum *palate synergy* at 10 AM. Please *interface* with me if you have any *bandwidth* for *cross-functional flavor ideation*.' No one responded, assuming it was another of Gerald's unreadable missives. Gerald, however, interpreted the silence as 'unanimous tacit approval for radical culinary innovation.'
At 10 AM sharp, Gerald, armed with an unshakeable belief in 'disruptive flavor profiles,' approached the smoothie machine. He began with a promising base of organic spinach and mango, then quickly veered into uncharted territory. 'For brainpower synergy,' he declared to the empty room, adding a can of sardines. 'And for a truly *global palate experience*,' he followed with a generous helping of durian paste. A final 'optimal emulsification' involved half a bottle of the office's notoriously watery coffee creamer.
The machine whirred, groaned, then emitted a sound eerily similar to a dying banshee. A cloud of thick, pungent vapor billowed from the dispenser, immediately triggering the fire alarm. The entire floor evacuated, coughing and spluttering, as the distinct aroma of fishy, sweet, and faintly cheesy decay permeated every cubicle.
Firefighters arrived to find no flames, only Gerald, meticulously cleaning the smoothie machine, muttering, 'Perhaps the *sensory KPIs* were slightly *miscalibrated* for this particular *stakeholder segment*.' The 'Synergy Smoothie' machine was removed the next day, replaced by a sign reading: 'Coffee is fine. Just coffee.'
